The clubhouse contains a ProShop and restaurant. The proshop is well equipped and the staff is friendly and professional. The restaurant has a good selection and the food is pretty good.
The course is 7077 yards from the tips and provides some challenges for the seasoned golfer as well as the the novice. The fairways are usually in good condition and the greens are usually kept rolling at a fast pace. There are several holes that have forced carries off the tee and some dramatic elevation changes to boot.
The course is considered to be one of the top tracks in town. There is something about that is appealing although I have trouble putting my finger on it. Everyone raves about the facilities and the course conditions, but at $75-$105 everything in sight should be prefect, shouldn’t it? We were there recently and the greens had not been cut (11am weekday) and the range was out of balls. The practice green was akin to a shag carpet, although it did give a true roll and was indicative of what the greens on the course were rolling at. (about 8 on the Stimp) The practice facilities as a whole are good at Canyon Springs and offer chipping/putting, sand play and natural turf driving range. We have definitely been there when the course conditions were much much better.
For me, if I am going to pay $100 dollars to play golf, it had better be a top notch experience from the time I park until I load my clubs back in my car. It just seems that when you charge in this price range and above, it is very very easy to let the consumer down. In my opinion for the price they are charging you could get the same experience from other courses in town at almost half the price and a little more centrally located.

I am the creator, owner and lead reviewer for Golf San Antonio.Net. I play in San Antonio and around the world year round. I split my time between family, work and golf. My handicap floats right around 3-6. I play in most local amateur events. I have caddied for local pros at professional tournaments. My family, friends and most my acquaintances play golf, when it's raining we watch golf, this is what we do :)

There are things that aren’t covered by the rating system that affect whether or not I enjoy a course and which aren’t directly rated to “course conditions.” “Pace of play” might be one, for instance, which isn’t a problem at Canyon Springs. Another example, which is a problem for me, is “ambiance.” I prefer to play on courses which feel rural – a course can have that even when it’s a relatively compact layout, with the fairways doubling back on one another. Canyon Springs is not compact, but is instead spread out by the developer to maximize the numbers of nearby houses which can back to the course. This is fine for the homeowners, but less than optimum for me – I’ll play elsewhere.

This golf course has it all. Beautiful club house, good food and beer, fun course design, nice hill country terrain, and great course condition (June). Good value for a wonderful experience.

GPS is included in all carts for no additional fee. The course is in amazing shape. The fairways and greens are among the best in San Antonio. When my friends ask me to explain “Texas Hill Country golf” I take them to Canyon Springs. You will not be disappointed.

I played this course for $39 which was the after 4:00 pm rate. Access to the practice range was included in this price. At this price it is definitely a 5-star playing experience. This course has personality and allows a new visitor to the San Antonio area to experience the Hill Country first hand. Playing the course requires a fairly long golf cart journey that winds its way through many of the Wilderness Oak housing areas as well as many trees, washes, gullies, and rocky outcrops. Its not uncommon to also see a number of deer in the area. The course is challenging and you need to review the golf tips supplied by the GPS to know where hit your tee-shots, as many of the tee shot views don’t give you an idea of where you have room for error. Two holes have distinct personality- one has two different fairways you can hit your ball to while finishing up at the same green. The finishing hole has a water fall that cascades down an adjacent rock cliff. The only possible negative aspect of the course is that you can be overwhelmed by the number of houses that surround the course, as every possible square foot of land seems to be in some stage of development. Fortunately there is enough natural beauty to offset this. Lastly, the club house and associated buildings have a ranch style feel, which adds to its personality. Beyond the golf experience itself, you will also can’t help but miss the mega-mansions that lord over the parking lot from the adjacent hills

I just returned from a trip to San Antonio. I had the opportunity to play golf while visiting SA. A public golf course that charges $106.00 for a round of golf should at least have greens cut. They were rolling to around 7.5-8.I probably sound like I’m a griping, I am. There were two holes that were challenging the rest were ho hum. I should have known better when I saw the cattle grazing behind the clubhouse. This course cost way too much to play, a muni at best $50.00 tops.

Played a practice round then a business scramble the next day. The only thing that wasn’t excellent was the weather..but what’s a little February rain in Texas?
Great food, service, practice area, course layout, etc. The only negative thing I can think of is the unfinished cart path going to hole 14….but give them some time.
The layout is beautiful. Bascially, you never see another golfer….only the beverage cart.

I played weekend twilight. One of the best courses in sa. Well kept, beautiful scenery, great staff. I played from the tips and used every club in the bag. My biggest complaint was extremely slow play. My round was 5 hours. The marshall said they pack ‘em in for twilight. There was also some construction going on between some of the holes. If you can stand the slow play this is definitely a course you must play. A must play in San Antonio

Course was in great shape and was a very interesting course to play. The course made you make some different style shots, and the beauty of the land was great. The waterfall backdrop on the 18th green is great for group pics. the facility itself was very nice and I plan on having Canyon Springs in my regular rotation. Looks like they offer some pretty good specials if you call and ask.

I just wanted to offer a qualified opinion. The person that left the previous rating obviously has no idea what a great course is like. You have to pay for the GPS in order for it to work. Canyon Springs is one of the finest golf courses I have played in Texas. I play all across the country including Myrtle Beach SC and Canyon Springs holds it’s own with any of them. The course is not for the weak. It demands a confident golfer especially from the drive aspect. Have fun!!!!

The course was in excellent shape but there are no yard markers to be found and the GPS does not work properly. We even had to ask other foursomes about their GPS, thinking it might only be our carts and they too were upset at the inaccurate readings compounded by the lack of markings around the course. You would expect better from such a nice facility.
