Cedar Creek Municipal Golf Course

Cedar Creek Municipal Golf Course, the current location of the San Antonio Mid Amateur Championship, is a city owned and operated course on the north side of town. The course has benefited from the city’s recent expenditures on the Municipal Golf Course System. In the past the course’s conditions have seen ups and downs. As of the past year or so they seem to be doing a much better job than in previous years. I’m not sure what this is attributed to, but it is a good thing none the less. Cedar Creek is the #2 Municipal course in San Antonio. Since the city has fully renovated Brackenridge (our review is coming very soon) it shows how much work needs to be done to their remaining courses. The course is kept in decent condition and is definitely a challenge for all skill levels. With the substantial elevation changes and fairly tight fairways, you must have control of your ball flight to score well here. Weighing in at 7,158 yards (from the tips) it is not a short course, but they have 4 tee boxes to suit all levels.
The practice facilities at Cedar Creek are fairly typical of local municipal facilities. The putting green is kept in good condition and reflects the condition of the greens on the course. The driving range is good (albeit the turf is a bit sandy for my tastes) and long enough for all your clubs.
The pro shop carries most everything you would need to complete your outing. The staff at Cedar have always been cordial and helpful. The clubhouse grill produces some pretty good food at very reasonable prices and has a great view of the surrounding area.
The City of San Antonio has established a players club encompassing all their courses, the AGCT (Alamo City Golf Trail) Players Club. They offer reduced green fees and other benefits. You can read more about their players club here.
We typically play Cedar Creek only about 10x a year, seeing how the City Mid-Amateur tournament is held there, we get some practice rounds in, as well as the tournament. The price is definitely right during the week and not much more on the weekend for this 3 Star Rated course, the value is pretty good. For a change in pace or if your looking to compete in the City Championships, Cedar Creek offers a round of golf that will definitely not disappoint, but may leave you wishing the course was in better condition.

I am the creator, owner and lead reviewer for Golf San Antonio.Net. I play in San Antonio and around the world year round. I split my time between family, work and golf. My handicap floats right around 3-6. I play in most local amateur events. I have caddied for local pros at professional tournaments. My family, friends and most my acquaintances play golf, when it's raining we watch golf, this is what we do :)

Cedar Creek Golf Course is well above average and is fairly challenging. If you’re not a below 100 golfer, I do not recommend the course. The course plays much more slowly than it needs to and the new management team needs to hire marshals to help speed up play. In general, the new management has improved the actual course but has failed at actually managing reservations and pace of play. The course should not take five hours plus to play, not even on the weekends and certainly not during the week.

In my opinion, Cedar Creek is the best public golf course in San Antonio. If your looking for a good course but don’t want to pay 100+, this is the course. Lots of hills, beautifull scenery, and an excellent staff. Call early for a tee time, and expect 5 hours to play.

Best Municipal course that I have visited. Great, scenic layout. Topography adds difficulty. Recommended for all but complete novices.

I used to play there all the time because it is simply the best hidden treasure in town. For $30 you can’t find any better muni course than Cedar at anywhere. However, since the city of San Antonio decided to turn the management to a private company in ‘08, its value has gone downhill. The price now is no difference than other private courses and the shape is not any better than before. In fact, the City has turned all of its 7 courses to the same company to run. One of these courses now charges $85 to play! The worst part is now the daily operation of these courses are run by a bunch young “golf pros” (the company wants to cut down the cost). Now, the pace to play on weekends is probably 5 hr+.

greens have been great and other times so-so, most of the time good. Call before you go. Usually, great place to play 18 while kids are at water parks.

I am from San Antonio and had not played this course for several years. Boy have I missed out! It is out of the city where it is cooler adn there are plenty of shady spots. The course is in exceptional condition and there is plenty of local knowledge needed to score well. Check it out!

Set in georgeous Hill Country surroundings, every hole is lined with rugged, beautiful hills. Although this course is very convenient to downtown SA, it nevertheless has an isolated feel. A beautiful and fairly challenging course with many interesting elevation changes. The 10th hole is a pretty awesome sight with about a 150′ elevation drop from tee to fairway. The course is a real bargain too.
