Pecan Valley Golf Course (Practice Facilities)
Course Categories:Driving Ranges
Pecan Valley was the host of the 5oth PGA Championship, the 1967, 1969 and 1970 Texas Opens, the 2001 US Amateur Public Links Championship, numerous NCAA tournaments and the current site for the PGA’s Texas Open qualifier event.
Pecan Valley’s practice facilities are about average for a daily fee course. The range will hold approximately 40 people, although they usually have it shut down to 1/2 size, I assume for turf reasons. Speaking of the turf its not bad, but it’s not great either. A bit too sandy for my tastes, it does however fill the need during warm up before a round, although I would not want to practice there daily for extended periods. The practice balls are of good quality and are kept clean. The range is a bit short as I can consistently hit my driver over the far net, I would guess it sits about 260 yards.
The practice green at Pecan is very nice, they usually have it in top condition. It is large enough to practice some 60-80 footers and has some undulations. There is a little space around the greens for some light chipping practice.
There is not short game practice area other than the small collar around the putting green. There actually used to be a sand trap area on the top of the driving range and we actually were using it one day for uneven lie practice, but were reprimanded by course personnel for being there
(that was several years ago)
I think that Pecan needs to somehow add a short game practice area somewhere, maybe behind the legendary scoreboard. The pro shop stops selling balls at 5.45pm!! come on, thats just silly, a good 3 hours before sundown. They also need to do something with the turf conditions at the range, just so very sandy. Maybe now that Foresight has added Pecan to their stable they will address these issues.
Until these issues are addressed, I recommend using Pecan Valley’s Practice Facilities for warm-up purposes only before playing the course. There are better practice spots around town to be used.

Have been to this course many times. The practice facilities are adequate, although not great. All in all not bad.
