Willow Springs Municipal Golf Course
Course Categories:* All Courses *, ** - (2 Star Rated), $ All Courses $, $$ - ($0 to $30)
The course is owned and operated by the city and has been neglected for years. The course is closed as of now. I heard that they had a fertilizer / weed killer mixup and killed all the greens. I went by there on Sept 10th and they were still closed.
The course is a fairly long 7221 yards from the tips and they have 4 tee boxes that varying skill levels can choose from. There are several holes that local knowledge is a must in regards to tee shot placement. The greens are on the large side, but in the past have been kept in poor condition. Fairways are decent and the rough is non existent. The course features very large trees and those trees come into play on most holes. The greens in the past were fairly slow and not altogether smooth.
The pro shop is very basic but should allow for you get the basics for your outing. The grill is very reasonably priced and the food is pretty good.
The practice facilities are limited to a putting green, that realistically depicts the conditions on the course. There is a small collar for chipping if you are so inclined. There is no range.
The cost is very reasonable and Willow is one of the cheapest courses in town. If your just looking to whack it around and have a day outside, or are looking to get your juniors out on the course for the day, this is the spot.
We will be checking the condition of the course after it re-opens and will report back here with a update. They would not give me a date as to when that is, but stay tuned.

I am the creator, owner and lead reviewer for Golf San Antonio.Net. I play in San Antonio and around the world year round. I split my time between family, work and golf. My handicap floats right around 3-6. I play in most local amateur events. I have caddied for local pros at professional tournaments. My family, friends and most my acquaintances play golf, when it's raining we watch golf, this is what we do :) Have you played this course before?? This course is in the best shape I have seen it in for the past 10 years! The greens are awesome! I have played a few times and each time the same great condition. The price is just right for the facility. Actually I think it’s pretty cheap! Will come back again and again! Great course!

What a crappy course. I don’t know what is worse, the course or the employees. Garbage all over the ravished course and that includes the foul mouths of the course employees.
I brought my kids to play but we did not finish the course.
Spoke to the the person working the so called pro shop about this and he didn’t seem to care. He was more concerned with getting the last word in instead of taking care of the customer.
I will never play there again. FIRE THE WHOLE BUNCH!!!!!

A great place to play, a very forgiving and wide open course allows for less than perfect shots. A fairly long course but easily managed. This course is usually in pretty good shape and the crowds usually arent too huge. An oldie but a goodie.

This course is, by far, the worst course I have ever played. High grass in the fairways, sand as hard as concrete in the bunkers, diseased greens, and no sign of anyone doing any work on a course that needs a massive amount of attention. If you are going to play this course, turn around and go to Olmos. Cedar Creek and Willow Springs are a shadow of what they used to be. I golf all over the city and your $33.80 is better spent at other courses, Silverhorn, Tapatio Spring, The Republic, Olympia Hills or even Olmos. It’s eveident the city is not concerned with their public courses. Take your money somewhere else…please!

These people are the rudest employees the city is unfortunate to have. The person in the clubhouse is a smart alec who doesnt take resoponsibility for the rudeness of his employee on the course. When confronted with their actions, they said “What do you want to do about it?”. RIDICULOUS, I will never play there again and spread the word to everyone I know. There are much better courses with much better people where I can take my clients and money.

The course itself plays well and is very enjoyable. However, we do not look forward to entering the clubhouse. Poor customer relations and a very small parking lot affect the overall experience. Hopefully the city will evaluate the clubhouse employees, otherwise I don’t expect many return customers.

The condition of the course is mediocre. The unforgiving Texas-heat has left it’s mark upon the course. I played it for the first time today, and my ball, which landed safely in the middle of the fairway, was bombarded by sprinklers showering my hasty approach. This happened on two separate holes. Navigating the course is difficult as well. Some holes are not marked, and there is quite a bit of back tracking cartpaths. But overall, it was a fun experience for the price. There are some lengthy par 5′s and 3′s, so it can be challenging. Nice for a quick outing on a weekday. It’s very comparable to Olmos Basin, whereas there is no range to warm up. The holes are more inviting though, and the price is much better than the Basin.
