The Flying L Guest Ranch, in which the Flying L Golf Course is situated on, is located in Bandera Texas, about 60 miles from downtown San Antonio. When On Highway 173 keep an eye out for this intersection and sign.
The course weighing in at 6,646 yards from the tips offers 3 sets of tees for a range of handicaps. The longer hitters will find that they will only pull driver on a handful of holes. The course winds through a housing development and the guest ranch. There are quite a few blind tee shots that without playing the course previously or the use the the functional GPS units within the carts, the course would have been a nightmare. At least with the GPS one can get a idea of where to hit the ball, although it didn’t always help 100%. This course is a another example of a course that you need to play multiple times to be able to play to your handicap. The course conditions were in-line with the prices being charged to play. We visited the course in the winter and the fairways and greens were not over seeded. Even though there was no over seeding the fairways were in good condition and there was a smattering of rough. The greens were in fairly good condition and rolled smoothly to about 9 on the Stimp meter.
The practice facilities at Flying L Golf Course, are pretty good for its location and much better than more expensive courses around town. The range is double sided and the turf is kept in good condition. They have over seeded the range and that’s a good thing. The putting and chipping areas are also kept in good condition and are very comparable to the conditions you will find on the course.
The pro shop is on the smallish side and unless you walk in the door with nothing at all to play with, it should be able to take care of what you need for a enjoyable round. The grill area is clean and looks to be well stocked. We did not eat there but we had “Starbucks” coffee that was brewed on site and it was good and warm on a cool day.
There are several locations on the course that are very scenic and several that take away from the overall feel of a gold course. (17 comes to mind on the later)
Overall Flying L Golf Course is a very economical day on the links. If you looking for somewhere new and don’t mind a lengthy drive from downtown, then Flying L just might fit the bill.

I am the creator, owner and lead reviewer for Golf San Antonio.Net. I play in San Antonio and around the world year round. I split my time between family, work and golf. My handicap floats right around 3-6. I play in most local amateur events. I have caddied for local pros at professional tournaments. My family, friends and most my acquaintances play golf, when it's raining we watch golf, this is what we do :) Have you played this course before?? The greens were decent and the layout was fairly creative. I thought the food was a little pricey but what golf course isn’t. I had a great time and recommend this course for any golfer

I would not reccomend at all! Lost this years week due to “turnover” in staffing at ranch that “lost” paperwork and staff will not work with me to resolve.

The rooms were old and unacceptable. It looks nothing like the website advertises. It is in the middle of a subdivision. I let my family down for booking us there. Overall – it was completely lame and we couldn’t wait to leave.
