Only 10 minutes from downtown San Antonio’s world famous Riverwalk, The Republic Golf Club is centrally located allowing accessibility by all in town. Their rates are affordable and they offer different pricing plans depending on day of the week and time of the day to allow all to experience the course. Republic has a “Player’s Club” that gives free range usage and discounted green fees, 7 days a week. Speaking of the range, Republic has above average practice facilities. See our Driving Range Review for The Republic.
The staff at The Republic has always been and continues to be friendly and down to earth. The have competent course marshals for the most part that do their part to keep play moving, even on busy days. Their restaurant has good food at a affordable price. Make sure to utilize their “food to go” system on the 8th tee box, have your lunch ready for you when you make the turn.
The course is a fairly wide open 7007 yards (from the Tips) and features 5 tee boxes to cater to all skill levels. Don’t let the wide fairways fool you, most are sloped from 1 side to the other allowing for tee shots that are hit to the short side to roll through the fast hard fairways into the medium length rough. Although the fairway lined rough doesn’t offer much of a penalty, the slight curvatures of the holes usually throw a tree or two in your way from reaching the green, making your recovery shot crucial to par. The greens are for the most part slopped from back to front allowing them to hold most medium iron shots. They usually sit on the Stimpmeter between 8-10, although for tournaments they have the ability to get them up in the 12 range, and with the slopes and curvatures of the greens this makes for a hairy day on the large greens. The course conditions are continuously above par, green and lush, even during our current “record drought” , they also keep the course over-seeded during the winter when the Bermuda goes dormant.
They have several holes that keep you on your toes. They have the monstrous 624 yard Par 5 #6 that because of its almost 90 degree left turn off the tee, makes it a 3 shot par 5 even for the longest hitters. The 336 yard #16 Par 4 is always exciting. If the wind is right (from the South) the big boys can reach the green with their drive allowing for eagle tries. After the course has fed your ego a bit on #16, it then takes a bite right back with the 243 yard Par 3, #17. In the winter when the wind comes from the North you could easily find yourself using 3 wood or even driver off this tee, its length and narrowness make it a challenging hole.
The Republic Golf Club never seems to disappoint. The combination of great course conditions year round, their more than adequate practice facilities, friendly staff, good food and great location make the course a favorite around town.

We are at Republic often enough that I never seem to get around to making a update on the page. Everything is as described above and all is going well at Republic. It is one of the few places in town that always stands out.

I am the creator, owner and lead reviewer for Golf San Antonio.Net. I play in San Antonio and around the world year round. I split my time between family, work and golf. My handicap floats right around 3-6. I play in most local amateur events. I have caddied for local pros at professional tournaments. My family, friends and most my acquaintances play golf, when it's raining we watch golf, this is what we do :)

The fairways are so wide, even the guy they stuck with us seemed to hit every fairway with a horrible slice. The course is in good shape, but this course is pretty boring. Your money is much better spent on Foresight Golf’s, other courses-The Bandit and The Buckhorn.

For a classic Texas golf experience try this course. Very nice practice facility, wide open fairways, fun greens, and interesting hole designs. For those short knockers, the forward tees provide a nice yardage for a fun day of scoring.

What at GREAT TRACK! The Republic is a must play for anyone living or visiting San Antonio! The course is only about 10 minutes from downtown and is extremely easy to get to. The greens fees are very reasonable and are a great value for what you get…lush greens, fairways, and tee boxes. The layout is fantastic and is very inviting for anyone whether you are a scratch golfer or a high handicapper. The staff is also a great; very friendly, laid back, and glad to see you! Check it out soon!!!

I was in San Antonio during at a recent conference in downtown San Antonio and was fortunate to play golf a few times during my visit. We played The Quarry, Canyon Springs, Silverhorn, and The Republic. I have to say that The Republic Golf Club was by far the best place I played the entire week and I wish we would have played there everyday we were in town! This golf course is first class! The greens were perfect and rolled true and the fairways were lush and green, not to mention the customer service was outstanding! This is a definite must play golf for any visitor or local golfer to San Antonio, I will absolutely be back next time I am in town.

I was in San Antonio a few weeks ago for a business trip and had the chance to play a few courses while I was in town. My buddy, who lives in SA, recommended I play the Republic, and let me say that I was thoroughly impressed with course. I grew up in SA and spent a lot of time at some of the other “top” public courses but had never played The Republic. I found the course to be a real treat, and I think it is the best I have played in SA. I read the 2005 review on this site, and either the course has changed, or the guy was not paying attention. The fairways were perfect and the greens are some of the best I have played on for a public course, hell, even a private course!! It is a real treat to find a great value like this. It is obvious that they pay attention to the details and I would recommend it to locals, or golfers in town for the weekend.
